This is a “very good -” vintage hardcover in pictorial cloth wrapped boards with black-and-white illustrated glossy frontispiece published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1929.First edition.Solid binding, no writing or marks aside from a “32” carefully affixed to the front free end paper. Page 91/92 upper corner turned over, otherwise no torn, folded or loose pages. Damp stain to front upper corner of book, on front board and page edges. Board corners are bumped but with minimal wear to cloth. Pictorial decorations on the cloth on front board and spine are bright, yellow/tan color uniform all around – not sunned on spine.Matching dust wrapper shows this title as the last book in the list inside the front flap. Large losses at both bottom corners of front cover and bottom of spine. Edge wear along top with some closed tears and smaller losses. Damp stain along upper flap fold edge of back board. Spine somewhat tanned but titling and images still bright. Now protected in a removable archival sleeve for proper presentation.Not perfect, but still a really pleasing vintage copy with its cover, which are getting more scarce each passing year.Will make for a great gift for that special collector or perhaps an upgrade for your collection!

There is no writing, no loose, torn or folded pages. The text block closes tightly and is relatively square, some small spotting, tinted upper edge is lightly spotted (see accompanying images).The original dust jacket has a loss at the top front corner that wraps around to the spine head (see images). 1 1/2" closed tear at the top on back with accompanying crease. Edge wear and chipping at the front flap fold along with a tear at the bottom. Wear with some loss at the bottom spine edges. Not a perfect jacket, but still quite attractive. A "very good" vintage hardcover in a matching "good" original dust wrapper published by Grosset and Dunlap in 1946.
Identified by points as the "1946a-28" printing as per Carpentieri & Mular's guide to identifying printings of the Hardy Boys books. The sixth signature of the book has been mistakenly bound with the sixth signature from an earlier Hardy Boys adventure - "While the Clock Ticked" - replacing pages 155-186 with the text of that story. Binding and hinges are fairly tight, not cracked or split. Internally, there can be a little space between signatures, but there are no loose sections pages. A closed tear on the outer edge of the frontispiece, otherwise, no tears, folded or loose pages. No writing. Board corners are nice and crisp. Pages 165-170, the upper corner of the page is slightly mis-cut. The tinting on the top edge of the text block is relatively uniform, a few very light, small scuffs. Paper on front and back boards is smooth and uniform. One small dent in the bottom edge of the front board. Matching dust jacket shows losses at spine head and tail. Some light edge wear elsewhere, with light chipping at flap fold corners. Front and back designs still bright. Now protected in a removable archival sleeve. See images for complete condition details.
