This is a “very good plus” vintage hardcover with a solid binding. No loose, torn or folded pages. No writing. Binding hinges are intact, not split, text block is square, closes tightly, fairly uniform in color all around. Board corners are all crisp, with no wear at tips. Spine head and tail lightly bumped.
Matching vintage dust jacket is not clipped, no writing or marks. Illustration on front cover is bright. Some edge wear and minor chipping all around. White back cover and flap show some tanning. Now protected in a removable archival sleeve.

There is a Public Library book plate affixed inside the front paste down dated January 1946, library being the Public Library of Dark Harbor, Maine. Opposite, on the front free end paper is a blue color pencil gift inscription marked from London and dated june 1945, otherwise no marks. Board corners are lightly bumped, with some wear at tips on cloth. Spine head and tail are bumped, edges sunned. Blue cloth boards are relatively even. The matching dust wrapper is not clipped. Page text in black with page number, story title and illustration comments in red. Includes 15 aquatint illustrations by William Sharp.A "very good" vintage hardcover. Text block is super crisp, closes tightly, gilt on all edges. Small round spot on bottom near spine where the gilt has lifted and a linear area along first 50 or so pages, looks to me that there was some moisture exposure at that area and it can be seen in the page margins in that are where the paper is lightly rippled from the exposure. No loose, torn or folded pages, no marks or name plates. Some slight wear at the very board corner tips. One small chip in the leather on the front board upper margin, a few very small ones on the hubs of the spine.See images for condition details.
