This is a (mostly) "near fine" or better 3 vintage cloth-wrapped hardcover set, published by Houghton Mifflin in 2002, numerous glossy color plates in each book by the incomparable Alan Lee. Oddly, "The Return of the King" is missing its dust jacket and has a deposit of a rubbery substance embedded in the cloth of the back board - rather disappointing, as otherwise this set is pristine.
All bindings are tight, square, close tightly. Text block edges are all bright, free from marks or signs of handling. Red cloth on all jackets is uniform, free from defects aside from as noted above. No loose, torn or folded pages. No writing. The dust jackets on "Fellowship" and "Two Towers" are not price clipped, and for the most part flawless. Now protected in removable archival sleeves.
