Light The Industrial Age 1750-1900 Art & Science, Technology and Society 2001 Sealed new Andreas Bluhm Louise Lippincott Coffee table book
A vintage new, factory sealed coffee-table format hardcover, published by Thames and Hudson in 2001, 272 pages.
Synopsis: Of all the revolutionary changes brought about by the industrial age perhaps the most extraordinary and far-reaching was the transformation of light. Scientists described its hidden laws to the public for the first time. Artists found radical ways of depicting it. Inventors found new ways of making it. The lives of ordinary people changed forever as streets, shops, theaters, and their own homes were brilliantly illuminated, first by gas, and then, even more dazzlingly, by electricity. The story is told here for the first time in its entirety. The book describes the inventions still with us, like electric light, the microscope, and photography, as well as arcane reminders of a vanished world, such as the heliostat, the lithophane, and the magic lantern. It portrays a revolution in the arts: Caspar David Friedrich depicting twilight, the Impressionists conjuring up sunlight. And it debates the changing symbolism of light: the meaning of the Enlightenment, the light of God's truth, the nightmarish light of the furnace by night. Above all, it delineates the changing lives of people. Setting masterpieces of painting alongside contemporary scientific instruments, theater paraphernalia, and domestic articles, Light! captures the history of human perception, understanding, and ingenuity. 195 color and 100 b/w illustrations. Will ship promptly, carefully packaged.

Vintage cinema hardcover “The Making of King Kong” 1975 First edition in original jacket
This is a "very good" hard cover in black paper wrapped boards, profusely illustrated with examples of conceptual art, film stills, and behind the scenes photos, 271 page including an index. Published by A.S. Barnes in 1975.
First edition. Has a strong intact binding and hinges/gutters. No writing, no loose, torn or folded pages. The text block closes square and tightly. The board corners are fairly crisp, with the upper back and lower front showing just hint of light bumping. Lower corners have what looks to be some white paint at the tips. Text block edges are uniform and bright, clean with just a couple each small light specks on the bottom and outer edge. The spine head and tail are bumped. The titling on the spine is crisp, bright, complete. The front endpapers are tanned due to the original owner sticking several related news clippings inside for storage. (I will include these, but they will be in an archival clear sleeve.) The matching dust wrapper is not price clipped, showing original publishers price of $17.50 inside the front flap. Some chipping at the flap fold corners, and also looks to be a little of that white paint at the tips of the bottoms. No writing or other tears. Some tanning on inside of flaps. Minimal edge wear along the bottom edge of the boards. Now protected in a removable archival sleeve. Somewhat scarce title! Will make a really great gift for the Kong enthusiast in your life. Please see accompanying images for full condition details. Will ship promptly, carefully packaged.
