A “very good” vintage hardcover in a matching “good plus” original dust wrapper published by Grosset and Dunlap in 1959.
Binding and hinges are crisp, with no writing or marks. The black tinting at the text block head has a little spotting, but fairly uniform with a little sunning at the spine. Upper board corners are crisp, lowers just slightly bumped. Front board decoration and spine titling is crisp and complete. Text block closes tightly. Spine head and tail edges lightly bumped.
Matching dust jacket has edge wear all around with the spine lightly sunned and some chipping at head and tail. Will arrive in a removable archival sleeve.

Using Carpentieri’s guide, we identify this copy as what he labels a “1959C-31”, meaning it is the third printing of 1959 and the 31st printing of the book. The first printing was in 1942. This edition still features the original first edition cover artwork.

There is no writing, no loose, torn or folded pages. The text block closes tightly and is relatively square, some small spotting, tinted upper edge is lightly spotted (see accompanying images).The original dust jacket has a loss at the top front corner that wraps around to the spine head (see images). 1 1/2" closed tear at the top on back with accompanying crease. Edge wear and chipping at the front flap fold along with a tear at the bottom. Wear with some loss at the bottom spine edges. Not a perfect jacket, but still quite attractive. The sixth signature of the book has been mistakenly bound with the sixth signature from an earlier Hardy Boys adventure - "While the Clock Ticked" - replacing pages 155-186 with the text of that story. Binding and hinges are fairly tight, not cracked or split. Internally, there can be a little space between signatures, but there are no loose sections pages. A closed tear on the outer edge of the frontispiece, otherwise, no tears, folded or loose pages. No writing. Board corners are nice and crisp.
