THE STORIES

Before Steve Ditko drew Spider-Man swinging between Manhattan skyscrapers, before he conjured the psychedelic dimensions of Doctor Strange, he was drawing horror comics for Charlton Press in the early 1950s.
This volume collects that early work — stories of monsters, madmen, supernatural dread, and moral comeuppance drawn in Ditko’s unmistakable angular style.
The material here predates the 1954 Comics Code Authority, which banned the graphic horror content these comics freely depicted.
Stories include “The Thing!”, “Rumpelstiltskin,” and numerous tales of suspense drawn from original Charlton issues published between 1953 and 1955.
