$35.00 – $50.00Price range: $35.00 through $50.00
“Wyatt Earp” by Philip Ketchum, published circa 1956 by Whitman Publishing Company.
Octavo, glossy coated pictorial wrap around boards, green tinted text block edges around, two-color chapter headings along with two-color full-page illustrations, apparently one each chapter; by Robert Doremus, 282 pages.
This is an exceptional copy for a Whitman Book of this era, as they are rather fragile for children’s books. It is “very good +” or better, which is uncommon.
This book is wholly intact, the coating is complete, neither the spine nor hinges are cracked, the text block closes tightly and is square, the tinted edges are relatively uniform in color, showing no signs of “thumbing”. There are four small surface scuffs to the edges on the bottom (see accompanying images). A hint of wear at the board corner tips and some slight chipping at the spine head and heel edges at the corners.
A really, really nice example of a classic children’s western published during the pinnacle of the Western in America!
A wonderful time capsule.

First edition. Octavo in hunter green paper wrapped boards, decorated end papers, numerous black and white illustrations and several full color plates, 196 pages. The text block is square and closes tightly. Board corners are lightly bumped and are worn at the tips and bottom edges, but not worn through. The spine head and heel are bumped with some edge wear also. Top edge of the text block is somewhat dusted and has a few small spots, other edges are lightly tanned but uniform in color. The original dust wrapper is not price clipped, showing original publisher's price of $3.50 inside the front flap. The jacket is fairly well tanned overall, significant losses at all corners and along the spine (see accompanying images). Now protected in a removable archival jacket for proper presentation. Vintage Better Little Book “Brad Turner in Transatlantic Flight” c.1939
The book is complete, the binding is mostly intact, albeit fragile, there is a split between the copyright page and the first page of the text. The pages show a fair amount of tanning and are somewhat brittle, with the copyright page having a triangular piece at the bottom folded over. The boards are bumped pretty much all around, with splits at the seems at all four corners of the spine. The colors on the covers is fairly bright, a little tanned on the back.
