This is a super early work by Cooper, being just the second novel published by him in the year 1821.
8vo, blue cloth wrapped vintage hard cover, glossy illustrated paste-on on front board, deckled outer and bottom text block edges, illustrations by C. LeRoy Baldridge, decorated end papers, 389 pages.
This is a "very good -" to "very good" vintage hardcover with a pictorial front board. The binding is intact but a little weakened front and back, hinges are soft but not cracked. There are no loose. torn or folded pages, no writing apparent. The board corners are lightly bumped, more at the top then the bottoms, some wear at tips with board showing through a little. The spine head and tail are bumped with the head lightly frayed. The text block edges are lightly tanned with the pages themselves bright (see accompanying images). Some general surface wear and spotting on the front and back boards, with a 3/8" round scuff on the glossy pictorial on the front being the worst.
Not quite perfect, but still really pleasant and the illustrations are wonderful!

This is a "very good" vintage paperback. The text block closes squarely and tightly, the lower page corners of pages 171-177 have been mis-trimmed at printing, and are folded up, otherwise, no loose, torn or folded pages from normal use. Binding is tight, not cracked or rolled. Text block edges lightly tanned, but internally the pages are bright. Over all edge wear with come chipping on covers, front cover slightly sunned at spine edge. Front cover relatively free from creasing, back cover has some light crease toward outer edge (see accompanying images).
Overall, a very pleasant, special volume. Sure to make a special gift for the Miss Marple / Christie / Poirot fan in your life! Perhaps you!

This is a "very good - " vintage book with a solid spine and sturdy cover hinges. The paste downs have the remains of the tape used to affix the dust jacket to the book, with the front end paper having the original owner's name neatly penned. Front and back board surfaces are relatively even overall, not spotted or stained. Some edge wear to bottom board edges. The board corners are mildly bumped with a hint of wear at very tips. Titling on the spine is fairly rubbed. Book has a hint of spine cock (when laying flat, as you look at the top or bottom edge, the front cover over hangs the back cover by a tiny bit - see accompanying images).
The original vintage dust jacket is not price clipped, showing original publisher's price of $2.50. Remains of tape runs along outer edges of both front and back flaps. The spine is well tanned, with small losses at top and bottom. Wear and small losses at the corners of all flap folds. Not a perfect jacket, but still pleasant. Now carefully encased in a removable archival sleeve for protection and presentation.
