THE STORY

Charles Harbutt was a central figure in postwar American photography — a Magnum photographer whose work fused documentary realism with a deeply personal, almost metaphysical vision. His afterword to Travelog has been called “one of the most insightful pieces of writing about the process of photography” by fellow Magnum photographer Alex Webb.
